Data Justice Act Launch Webinar
On January 28, 2026, Data Privacy Day, the Center on Race, Inequality and the Law at NYU Law and the Engelberg Center on Innovation Law & Policy at NYU Law co-hosted a panel discussion to preview the Data Justice Act (DJA), a model legislation and report authored by the Forensic Defense Clinic at NYU Law, the Forensic Evidence Table, and the Center on Race, Inequality, and the Law.
This new report critically examines the state’s pervasive collection and use of personal data and introduces the DJA. Together, the report and the DJA articulate core principles grounded in a basic premise: personal data belongs to the individual, and the state’s use of such data must be narrow, lawful, transparent, and accountable.
